Extent of Environmental Law Teaching
(Preliminary Findings)
Although the PRC Ministry of Education has added environmental law to the core course of the major law degree studies, only about 350 of the total 624 law schools provide environmental law courses for the basic law degree and only about 50 of them provide environmental law courses for postgraduate studies. This shows a gap of law schools not complying with the compulsory requirement of the Ministry of Education on environmental law education.
From the returned surveys, a large number of them indicated that there is a lack of law professors/lecturers who can teach environmental law often and the shortage often results in environmental law courses being taught by teachers conducting research in other disciplines of law.
